Construction of a Proton Beam Therapy (PBT) Center in London. Bouygues UK has been awarded the design and built of the University College Hospital-Phase 4 which consists in a 6 storeys above ground building, and 5 storeys below ground.

The substructure include the PBT area, which consists in very thick concrete structures, including multitude of embeds, making its construction as challenging as a nuclear plant.

Integrated to the Civil Work Team, the draughtsman/CAD technician will assist the methods/temporary work engineer in the production of methods drawings. 4 types of methods drawings have to be produced:

  • Site installation drawings. Most of the drawings exist, they will need to be updated and improved as the project progress. This include the cranes arrangement, concrete supply arrangement, storage areas, electrical supply,…
  • Sequence drawings. This can be either:
    • High level sequence. Concrete pour sequence
    • Detailed level when required by the complexity of the structure, to check whether the envisaged work sequence is workable, particularly with regards to reinforcement and embeds installation. These documents will enable the production team to visualize and agree on the work methods, and will be integrated to their Risk Assessment and Method Statement
  • PBT formwork arrangement drawing. From the structural drawings and based on the temporary work engineer guidelines, the draughtsman will define and draw a formwork arrangement using a defined standard formwork panel set. The arrangement will intend to minimize the number of special formwork required and optimize the reuse of formwork panels from one pour to the other. Same type of drawings will have to be produced for temporary working platforms.
  • Temporary work fabrication drawing, based on the design of the temporary work engineer, for specific formwork or other temporary work as required.

The draughtsman must be completely up to speed with AutoCad. Nevertheless, working with Revit will be a plus as most of the design information is included in a Revit models, and the ability to extract this information by export to AutoCad will help.

Experience in temporary work and methods would be appreciated.
